Whiting Aesthetic Movement 'Dandelion' Sterling Silver Asparagus Serving Fork, c. 1880's
This highly unusual design is of a scene of dandelions over four wavy circular devices. About fifteen years ago we had a salad set in this pattern. Good asparagus servers are hard
to come by and this one is lovely. It can be used for serving sandwiches and is also great for lasagna
. An example of the pattern can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, where they have a large serving fork and spoon on view. Interestingly, one
piece has the dandelion gilded and one does not.
This lovely sterling silver server is stamped with Whiting's trademark and 'STERLING/3'. It measures 10.25 inches long, weighs 4.45 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition. A
monogram has been removed from the back, but it is well done.
