Tiffany & Co. 'Lap Over Edge' Sterling Silver Salad Serving Spoon, c. 1902-07
"Lap Over Edge is generally regarded as the most innovative of Tiffany's flatware patterns" (Tiffany Silver Flatware by William P. Hood, Jr., p. 219). This rare spoon
has a shaped bowl which retains it's original gilding on both sides. The front of the handle is masterfully engraved with aquatic foliage from where the head of a
lobster emerges near the top. The back is nicely engraved with a 'GGE' monogram.
The back of this magnificent spoon is stamped 'TIFFANY & CO/ STERLING/ PAT. 1880/ C. Another rare feature to this server which one sometimes finds is the
identification of the etched design with this piece having 'LOBSTER' scratched on the back next to the marks. This server measures 10 inches long, weighs 3.55 troy
ounces and is in excellent condition with light surface scratches to the bowl.
