Bigelow, Kennard & Co. Sterling Child's Cup, c. 1874

This is a wonderful child's cup with a beautifully cast handle with classical ends.  Above a simple splayed foot is a die-rolled band with repeating decoration of three tulips within a shell amongst other floral aesthetic motifs.  The plain body is decorated with a shimmering matte finish.  The interior of the cup also has a matte finish which was then gilded to enhance its beauty.  The front of the cup is engraved 'Mary Bartlett Brooks/ May 21, 1874'.

This beautiful cup is stamped underneath, 'BIGELOW, KENNARD & CO/ BOSTON/ 472/ ENGLISH STERLING'.  This lovely cup measures 3.5 inches high by 4.25 inches across the handle, weighs 6.4 troy ounces, retains its original gilded interior and is in very good condition.
