Samuel Kirk Silver Ewer, 1828-42
Elegant design and wonderful quality are exemplified in this stunning ewer. The plain surface is stylishly adorned with
striking, hand-chased classical leaves which hang downward around the upper rim and rise upward from the pedestal foot. The boldly cast reeded, geometric handle with foliate
terminals contrasts nicely with the slender, curvaceous body.
Decorating the front of the body is an ornamental coat of arms in a shield with sprigs and a flower. The plain pedestal base is bordered with a foot decorated with an engraved
vermicelli design.
This wonderful ewer is marked 'SAML KIRK' and 'S.K/ 11.OZ'. It measures 14.75 inches high, weighs 34.15 troy ounces and is in very good/ excellent antique condition.
