Arthur Stone ‘Coneflower’ Pattern Sterling Tea Strainer, early 20th century
This wonderful hand-raised, hand-pierced and hand-chased tea strainer was made in Arthur Stone’s shop in Gardner, Massachusetts. The intricate pattern requires careful piercing and chasing; the bowl of the strainer is line-chased for added decoration. Stone did the chasing and piercing. The strainer was raised by specialist spoonmaker Charles Brown, a master in his own right and a recipient of a bronze metal for his craftsmanship from the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts - one of only seven silversmiths to receive this prestigious award, the highest honor bestowed by the society.
This lovely piece is marked on the back with Stone shop mark, ‘STERLING”, and with the sideways ‘B’ for Charles Brown. It measures 6.75 inches long, weighs 1.45 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent condition.
